Correct the macOS error: snap_metadata_val object (): invalid extentref_tree_oid (0x0)

Your macOS drive is a mess, the system seems to idle and the fan tends to panic more than reason? Your TimeMachine backup no longer ends?

You went to High Sierra and converted your disk to APFS?

Start in “Repair” mode (Command + “R” all the way through the boot phase), run the disk parser on your hard disk and it is likely that you get the following error:

snap_metadata_val object (oid <aléatoire>): invalid extentref_tree_oid (0x0)

or

Snapshot metadata tree is invalid

To repair that, follow this guide :

Restart your system normally and in a terminal prompt, list the snapshots created :

$ tmutil listlocalsnapshots /
com.apple.TimeMachine.2018-03-20-112749 (dataless)
com.apple.TimeMachine.2018-03-21-174756
com.apple.TimeMachine.2018-03-22-074442

If the list shows a dataless snapshot like above, delete it:

$ tmutil deletelocalsnapshots 2018-03-20-112749
Deleted local snapshot '2018-03-20-112749'

and the problem is solved !

A new Samyang envy … 50mm 1.2 or 85mm 1.4 ?

As I told you in January, I gave my X-T20 the Samyang 12mm lens and I’m particularly happy with it.

Some photos have been reused by the Departmental Committee of Tourism of Haute-Garonne on Twitter:

Although this lens is entirely manual, I do not find it particular problem concerning the focusing. I use for this the Focus Peaking proposed by the X-T20 (in red highlight) and it works like a charm. For those who do not know, it is Damien Bernal (read his article on this subject) who will take care of the explanation (in french):

On the other hand, will you say, a 12mm for landscape, it is relatively easy to focus? I agree.

With this very good experience, the manufacturing quality of the lens and bringing all this to the fact that it really does not cost an armor, I start to make eyes soft to 2 new optics from Samyang, always for my Fujifilm

At first I had been interested by the 85mm F/1.4, available from eGlobalCentral at € 208 (currently) or Amazon.

But after some tests, I find the focal length of 85mm (equivalent 125 mm) too tight for portraits. I have to go back too far to have a frame a little wide of the subject indoors. It will probably be my 3rd goal Samyang but, for now, I think twist to another.

And to get a little closer to the subject (my photos but also this post), I searched – and particularly appreciated – the photos taken with the Samyang 50mm F1.2.

It has the second advantage of a little more of aperture than the 85mm: 1.2 against 1.4. As a reminder, at this focal length with my 18-55 my 50-230, I have only F4.0. Having 1.2 to 50mm will be a big plus for portraits or tight shots. The test from focus-numerique, which I invite you to read will have convinced me to take the plunge, because the last argument is that of the price, once more: The 50mm is currently at 317 € at eGlobalCentral and at Amazon
Feel free to leave me your opinion, if you have one or the other !!

I leave you with some pictures that I can take with the Samyang 12mm:

Samyang 12mm F/2 for Fujifilm X-Series

This Samyang, it’s my January photo gift 😉

(Each image leads you to the full resolution)

Like all the other lenses of my equipment, I will dedicate a page to it, and will add all my returns and photos, as and when using. Here it is : https://frenchw.net/en/photography/gear/samyang-12mm-f-2-0-ncs-cs/

Reseller: eGlobalCentral.fr (239,99€ then) and still no worries with them. I want to say, we hear only those who have problems … Received in 7 days! (For the ones that it could afraid, here is an amazon link for it)

The focal length is fixed at 12 mm and the aperture goes from F/2 to F/22

Beautiful beast for the price, it is clear, very clear ! No worries about manual focus with the focus peaking provided by the Fujifilm X-T20. I use the one based on highlights (red one). Especially because the use of this lens, it is rare to take less than a meter away.

It comes with a small bag and a sun hood accordingly. I just added a “cheap” UV filter to protect the lens.

My Lowerpro bag reaches saturation with all the lenses of my equipment 🙂 But, it’s very good because I can still take everything with me, and add my Mavic Air. My zooms cover from 18mm to 230mm and the 2 fixed focal lengths: 35mm F/1.4 and 12mm F/2.

Here are some photos taken with. See the others on the flickr page I dedicated to the Samyang 12mm

.net framework 3.5 setup on Windows 10 – Error : 0x800f081f

I’ve been …. how to say …. “annoyed” to be able to install the .net framework 3.5 on my Windows 10 development system. This is a prerequisite for installing WixToolset (excellent program for generating installation files).

Going through the addition of functionality, I ran into the error 0x800f081f that I choose (or not), recover files on Windows update. Ditto trying to install it from the runtime binaries available at MS.

After having read the useless article of the technet concerning this error, I finally found the solution:

  • Start a PowerShell session “as administrator” (clic on the french capture below)

  • Connect the installation media (CD or iso) of your windows 10
  • Type in the PowerShell window:
    DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:<YOUR_CD_DRIVE>:\sources\sxs
  • Force a system update by launching Windows Update

NB: <YOUR_CD_DRIVE> is the drive letter containing Windows 10 sources
